Sixty-eight years on, the founder's grandson runs a textile export house with warehouses in Karachi and a trading office in Deira. The business now supplies denim and cotton blends to buyers across four countries, a scale the founder himself never imagined from behind his first stall.

"We were never taught to keep the ledger closed. My grandfather said a Memon's business is only as good as the family who inherits it."

The family's move into export came in the early 1990s, when import restrictions eased and a generation of young Memon traders began looking past Karachi's own markets toward the Gulf. It was, by most accounts, a bet — one that took nearly a decade to pay off.

Today, the third generation is exploring e-commerce and direct-to-buyer sales, a shift the family says is less a departure from tradition than a continuation of it.
